Grobnik beckons: Austria Formula Cup meets FIA CEZ and F1 demo

13 May 2026

Round 03: Austria Formula Cup – Grobnik (CRO)

The Austria Formula Cup heads to Croatia this coming weekend. From 15 to 17 May 2026, the formula racing series will be making a guest appearance at the Grobnik Circuit near Rijeka, continuing the current season on a track that has been known in the paddock for years for its fast pace and uncompromising characteristics. The circuit is one of Eastern Europe’s classic racing tracks. Following the first four races of the season, attention now turns to the next major showdown within the Austria Formula Cup. With a total of ten cars entered, the field once again presents a diverse line-up. In the Formula Regional class, Karl Heinz Matzinger will line up for Team Hofmann Racing in a Tatuus F3 T-318. The highly competitive F3 Trophy features several different car designs and engine packages. Lee Cunningham represents Team Hofmann Racing in a Dallara F312, whilst Luca Iannaccone drives a Dallara F308 for Giordano Motorsport. Also in the field is André Petropoulos in a Dallara F316. In the F3 Cup standings, Ludwig Kronawitter competes for Franz Wöss Racing in a current-spec Dallara F320.

At Grobnik in particular, the technical diversity within the field could play a particularly interesting role. The circuit is considered physically demanding and requires the utmost concentration over the entire race distance. Above all, the fast combinations of corners and the often high track temperatures present additional challenges for drivers and equipment. At the same time, the circuit offers few real moments to catch one’s breath, meaning consistency and tyre management could prove decisive.

The race weekend begins on Friday morning with free practice and qualifying in the afternoon. The two races are then scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Alongside the Austria Formula Cup, the programme includes the TCR Eastern Europe series as well as various FIA CEZ championships and touring car classes. As a result, teams and spectators can look forward to a packed weekend featuring an international starting grid and an extensive supporting programme.
