Double victory for Sandro Zeller in Brno

Round 07: Austria Formula Cup – Brno (CZE)

The seventh round of the Austria Formula Cup season, held as part of the Masaryk Racing Days at the Automotodrom Brno, saw Sandro Zeller (SUI / Jo Zeller Racing) secure two more victories, marking yet another perfect race weekend. The Swiss driver came out on top in both the first and second races, thereby further extending his lead in the championship. Behind Zeller, Kurt Böhlen (SUI / Jo Zeller Racing), Vaclav Safar (CZE / GT2 Motorsport by Hoffmann Racing) and Nicolas Löffler (GER / Franz Wöss Racing) were involved in thrilling battles for the remaining podium places.

Race 1: Zeller wins ahead of Böhlen and Safar
The first race of the weekend was run over 14 laps. Sandro Zeller started from pole position after securing the best starting spot in the first qualifying session with a time of 2:05.885 minutes. Starting alongside him on the front row was his team-mate Kurt Böhlen. Nicolas Löffler and André Petropoulos rounded off the top four on the grid. Zeller got off to a strong start and established himself at the front. Behind him, a close battle unfolded for the remaining podium places. Kurt Böhlen stayed hot on the heels of the championship leader and eventually crossed the finish line in second place, 3.855 seconds behind. Vaclav Safar rounded off the podium, securing victory in the Formula Regional class in the process. Nicolas Löffler finished fourth ahead of André Petropoulos. Janos Magyar crossed the line in sixth place, whilst Christof Ledermann took seventh. Nikolay Takev, Lee Cunningham and Tomas Chabr rounded off the top ten. Sandro Zeller also set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:51.258 minutes.

Race 2: Another victory for Zeller – Safar on the podium
In the second race of the weekend, too, there was no getting past Sandro Zeller. The Swiss driver prevailed once again and celebrated his second victory in Brno after 14 laps. This time, however, his lead over the competition was significantly greater. Zeller crossed the finish line 9.559 seconds ahead of Vaclav Safar. Kurt Böhlen rounded off the podium, securing Jo Zeller Racing’s second podium finish of the weekend. André Petropoulos finished fourth, followed by Christof Ledermann. Nikolay Takev took sixth place ahead of Nicolas Löffler. Tomas Chabr and Lee Cunningham finished in eighth and ninth places respectively. Janos Magyar came tenth. Behind them were Dr Norbert Groer, Walter Steding, Matteo Zoccali, Alexander Fritz and Luca Iannaccone. In the second race, too, all 15 drivers who started were classified. Zeller once again set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:51.594 minutes.

Championship: Zeller extends his lead further
With his two victories in Brno, Sandro Zeller now has 257 points after the seventh round of the season and continues to lead the overall standings by a clear margin. The Swiss rider now has a comfortable lead over the new runner-up, Christof Ledermann of Franz Wöss Racing, who has moved up to 99 points and is thus in second place on his own for the first time. Behind them are Michael Fischer (AUT / Red Rose Racing by LRT) and Andrea Benalli (ITA / Puresport), both on 92 points. André Petropoulos (GER / Team Hoffmann Racing) is in fifth place with 88 points, whilst Kurt Böhlen has climbed to sixth place with 87 points following his strong weekend in Brno. Nicolas Löffler follows in seventh place with 84 points, and Janos Magyar is in eighth place with 75 points. Stig Larsen rounds off the top ten with 69 points. Whilst Zeller has further consolidated his championship lead with another one-two finish, the battle for the positions behind him remains tight. There are just 24 points separating second and eighth place. Ledermann, Fischer, Benalli, Petropoulos and Böhlen, in particular, are separated by just twelve points, meaning the remaining races of the season remain crucial for the drivers chasing the leader.

The Austria Formula Cup continues from 16 to 18 October at the season finale in Mugello, Italy. The Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello will host the final round of the 2026 season. Whilst Sandro Zeller heads into the race with a comfortable lead at the top of the overall standings, the battle for the remaining positions in the championship will also be decided at Mugello.
